The Virtual Club Cup is a unique event that allows runners of all abilities to compete against each other on a level playing field. It doesn't matter if you are an elite runner or first timer everybody stands a chance of winning both individual and club bragging rights!
A fun club vs. club competition that couldn't be simpler. All you have to do is pair up with another runner of the same club, and sign up detailing your current 5k personal bests. Then simply run as fast as you can to try and beat it.
Each runner will then be given a % to PB score, which will then be averaged out with your partners score to give you a final 'pairing score'. All of the scores for each club will then be averaged out, and the winning club will be the one with the highest overall average. There will also be a pair prize for the highest overall 'pairing score'.
Find yourself a running buddy.
Run your 5k Time Trial between 00:00 Friday 5th March - 23:59 Sunday 7th March.
Put your feet up, relax and await the final results at both an individual and club level.
For a select number of you grab a cold one out of the fridge and celebrate the win!
For this challenge you are required to buddy up with another runner in the same running club. For entry eligibility requirements and COVID related queries please refer to our rules section at the bottom of this page or by clicking HERE.
Once you have found a running buddy, you must both sign up on this website. As part of the entry you will be asked to declare the following:
Each participant must complete a 5k Time Trial within the competition window which will run from 00:00 on Friday 5th March up until 23:59 on Sunday 7th March. Any runs completed outside of this window won't be eligible for submission against pair/club results. Please see the 'Rules' section below to ensure your run is eligible to be submitted.
Once both entrants have completed their 5k Time Trials you MUST submit your results* via the link above or by clicking HERE no later than 23:59 on Monday 8th March 2021. Any submission received after this will not be counted towards both the pair and club results.
Also you MUST submit your participant name exactly as it appeared on your sign up confirmation email. This is to ensure we can ratify & complete the results as quickly/efficiently as possible.
Each entrant will receive an overall grading percentage which will be determined by taking their 5k Personal Best that was submitted upon sign up, and comparing it to their 5k Time Trial Result. For example...
Joe Bloggs signs up with a 5k personal best time of 28:53 and manages to run 29:17 for his 5k Time Trial. Where matching his time would give him a score of 100%, in this example his percentage score would be 98.63%.
Josephine Bloggs who is paired with Joe signs up with a personal best time of 24:14 and manages to run 24:01 for her 5k Time Trial. This would give her a percentage score of 100.90%.
Their 5k percentage scores are then combined and averaged out to give then a 'pairing score' of 99.77%.
All pairs within the same club will then have their 'pairing scores' averaged out, which will then provide a final score for the club.
It is both the highest club and pairing score that will win overall.
*by submitting your results you are agreeing for us to upload a final results file that will contain your full name, 5k running times, and club name.
We all know that a 5k Time Trial can be pretty exhausting, so we would encourage you to put your feet up, relax and wait for the results to be announced around 18:00 on Tuesday 9th March via your clubs and email.
The club that has the highest overall grading percentage will be crowned our Virtual Club Cup Winners. Similarly the pair that has the highest 'pairing score' will also win a prize.
All participants must be aged 16 or over to take part in this challenge.
As this is a challenge between running clubs we would ask that ALL entrants are officially affiliated as per EA guidelines. We are happy to accept entrants who are second claim.
We would ask that the profile of your 5k Time Trial isn't mainly downhill, as this could offer an unfair advantage. At our sole discretion we may disqualify any entrant whose activity we believe couldn't be replicated on a flat/mildly undulating course.
ALL Results MUST be submitted no later than 23:59 on Monday 8th March 2021. Any results received after this will not be officially registered.

For clarity each entrants activity must be 5k (5000m) or 3.11 miles. We will allow a small tolerance for GPS failure, but as a minimum your run MUST be 4.95k (3.08mi) or longer to be eligible. If your distance is short you MUST adjust your time accordingly. For anyone who isn't confident to adjust please drop us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will happily help you do this. We will be carrying out random spot checks of result submissions too.
All entrants MUST adhere to the current COVID-19 guidelines as detailed by the government. Whilst we can appreciate the fun nature of this competition we would also like to remind all entrants to keep safe, act responsibly and ONLY run if you are fit enough to do so. If you are showing any possible symptoms of Covid-19 please follow the guidelines laid out by the government. All entrants enter at their own risk and Raced Coaching will not be liable for any incidents/injuries that may arise as a direct result of taking part in this challenge.
No not at all. Our overall grading system puts all of our entrants on a level playing field. So whether you are a seasoned professional or just graduated from couch to 5k you have just as much chance of being the winning pair and contributing to your overall club score.
Whilst we would encourage you to complete this challenge outdoors, we are more than happy to accept result submissions from activities completed on a treadmill. All that we would ask is that your treadmill is set to a minimum incline of 1%, as this will best simulate 'outdoor running' and create parity against other entrants.
You are more than welcome to run with your four legged friend. If you intend to do so we would ask that when submitting your personal best during sign up, you submit a time that was run with your dog. This is because we are aware that running with a dog can create a distinct time advantage.
We would recommend that you use a fitness tracking app such as Strava or Garmin to record your activity. Unfortunately if you do not have access to an application that will both record your time and distance travelled with an associated map, you would not be eligible to take part. This is mainly due to the fact we would then have no official way to ratify your result.
As long as you adhere to current Covid-19 exercise guidelines, which limit you to running with only 1 other person socially distanced, then that is no problem at all.
Yes. Once we have officially announced the club and pair winners, we will publish a downloadable results spreadsheet on our website.
Yes you must complete your 5k Time Trial in one go for it to be eligible.
You MUST submit your total elapsed time for your 5k. For example if you started your run at 09:00:00 and finished at 09:27:13 but stopped for 35 seconds during the run your total time would be 27:13, not 26:38 (the time achieved by removing the stoppage). If you use strava then list your activity as a race and this will automatically detail the total elapsed time ignoring any stoppages.
As this event relies on hard data, we would recommend that you test any watches/apps prior to completing your time trial. If for any reason your result is skewed as a result of a faulty GPS or similar, you can complete your time trial at another point during the competition window. If then you are still not able to obtain an official result you would not be able to submit anything towards the overall results.
The winning club will receive a trophy, as will the winning pair. All entrants can also download/print their own customisable BIB number by clicking HERE. Due to the low cost of this event there is no finisher medal for entrants. Your fee contributes towards the administration/organisation of this event.
